To Monitor Battery Discharge Levels In Traction Applications

New batteries are shipped either 'un-charged' or 'dry-charged' or 'wet-charged'.

  1. 'Un-charged' batteries need to be filled up with acid and cycled through several charge-discharge phases before the battery can be used - This process is called INITIAL CHARGING. The actual charging current and the charging period are specified by the battery manufacturer.
  2. 'Dry-charged' batteries are those where the plates are charged and the battery shipped without the electrolyte. Such batteries have to be filled with electrolyte at site and charged before use - This process is called FIRST-TIME CHARGING. The actual charging current and the charging period are specified by the battery manufacturer.
  3. The CCM provides constant charging current which is settable by the operator in 5-100% range and an electro-mechanical timer that is settable from 12 – 120 hours.
  4. The CCM also allows multiple batteries to be INITIAL or FIRST-TIME charged through a battery selector. The CCM provides upto four battery voltage selections - e.g. the CCM can provide charging current for a selection between 24V/36V/48V/72V batteries.
  5. Note: 'Wet charged' batteries are ready for immediate use after one normal charge.
